The Medium and the Mayhem was a research fellowship funded by the Thomas J. Watson Foundation, exploring electronic art and music practices around the world.

A sampling of some of my travels:

Visiting a Chilean artist who makes instruments from heaps of trash from the United States

Meeting the Gambiologia Collective, an art collective that celebrates the Brazilian practice of gambiarra, or kludging.

Visiting an Oi Kabum School, digital art schools for public high schoolers in Brazil.

A digital art space and startup incubator in the heart of Bangalore built entirely of pallet racks.

Participating in an experimental art festival in the Himalayas.

Visiting Computer Club Mysore, where engineering students supplement their schooling with creative projects.

Meeting TRIAC, a trio of electronic artists who create analog performances with e-waste and handmade electromagnetic microphones.

The House of Natural Fiber Collective (now with some members in another collective called Lifepatch) in Yogyakarta, who made a sound installation with the amplified bubbling of homemade wine, an outgrowth of community workshops to tackle lethal methanol poisoning in their community.

Participating in the Brazilian circuit bending scene.
